Ben Birdsong serves with the Middle School Ministry at FBC Pelham. He has served on staff with the student ministry at FBC Pelham since May 2009. Prior to coming to FBC Pelham, Ben served with the student ministries at Green Valley Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama and Mountain Brook Community Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama. He has also served with students with First Priority of Alabama and Student Life, Inc. Ben is originally from Birmingham, Alabama. Ben attended high school at Shades Mountain Christian School. He has bachelors degrees in Marketing and Human Resource Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Masters of Divinity degree from Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School. He is currently a Doctor of Ministry student focusing in Ministry to Emerging Generations at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Ben was licensed and ordained to the ministry at the Church at Brook Hills in July of 2009. In addition to serving with students at FBC Pelham, Ben also serves as a Shelby County Network President and on the Board of Directors for First Priority of Alabama, on the youth minister advisory board for the YouthMinistry360 publishing company, and as an assistant football coach for Helena Middle School. Ben is married to Liz, who also serves on our middle school student ministry team. He enjoys reading, writing, watching movies, and good conversations over a drink at Starbucks.
Student Ministry Assistant
Betty Abbott is the Student Ministry Assistant at First Baptist Church of Pelham. She has served as the Ministry Assistant for Preschool and Children’s Department at FBC Pelham since May 2010. Betty is a retired educator, with 27 years’ experience, where she has served as a classroom teacher, school counselor, and school administrator.
Betty is originally from Jasper, Alabama and moved to Shelby County in 2003. She lives with her husband John, daughter Morgan and two Maltese dogs, Lucy and Oliver, which she adores. Betty has a son and a daughter in law, Harrison and Hannah Abbott. Morgan is a student at UAB School of Nursing. Betty enjoys serving the Lord, spending time with family, reading, traveling and serving as Student Ministry Assistant at First Baptist Church Pelham.
